Grow your child’s creativity with a memorable summer at MOCA!

MOCA Jacksonville offers artcamp@MOCA, nine week-long sessions (with the week of Independence Day off) of creative art making for ages 4-5, 6-11, and 12-15. Museum educators and certified local art educators provide quality instruction in a wide variety of subjects and media. Summer artcamp@MOCA includes a variety of art-making activities, exploration of art history, tours of the Museum’s collection, literacy and creative movement. Space is limited.

Week 1: Awesome Animals
Lions and tigers and bears, oh my! Use art concepts such as shape, color, and line to unleash those artistic animal instincts!
Week 2: Superheroes
Up, up, and away! Create your own superhero using narrative drawing and painting, and costume design.
Week 3: Bugs and Butterflies
Make the world of insects larger than life! From ladybugs to beetles, there are lots of colors and shapes to explore.
Week 4: Nifty Nature
Set your natural creativity free! Use natural materials such as leaves and flowers to create 2-D and 3-D works of art.
Week 5: Faces and Places
Wish you were here! Learn about culture from around the world with painting, collage and sculpture projects inspired by distant lands and people.
Week 6: Under the Sea
Everything’s better down where its wetter! Learn all about sea creatures and plants and even create your own. The ocean has so many colors and textures to discover.
Week 7: Storybook Art
A picture is worth 1,000 words! Never is that more true than with children’s stories. Read and illustrate your favorite story or create a new tale!
Week 8: Art Masters
Be your own master! Create artwork inspired by the modern and contemporary master artists.
Week 9: Dinosaur Designs
Create ‘dino’ mite projects designed around the prehistoric era. Learn about texture, structure, and pattern when making collages and sculptures.

Week 1: Express Yourself
Use color and form to express how you feel and who you are. Follow the footsteps of famous artists, from Kandinsky to Rothko as you experiment and learn about color theory.
Week 2: Creative Combinations
Combine several objects and items to create unique works of art. Through 2-D (collage) and 3-D (sculpture) explore your ideas and the materials.
Week 3: Art for Art Sake
Create artwork that is focused on the basic elements and principles of art. Learn how simple line, shape, and color can be used to create endless possibilities of successful art.
Week 4: Natural Art
Use natural materials to create 2-D and 3-D works of art that are inspired by nature. From pressing flowers to ephemeral art, learn the possibilities of world around us.
Week 5: A 3-D Experience
Learn various methods for creating three-dimensional (3-D) works. From clay to metal and paper sculpture, learn how to create artwork that stands out.
Week 6: Art Across the Atlas
Explore work from around the world using many different materials. Learn to make new art from various cultural traditions and the meaning behind them.
Week 7: Modern Masters
Take a tour of the galleries and see the work from the Modern Masters. Then learn their methods and create work inspired by the likes of Frank Stella and Nancy Graves.
Week 8: Monkeys and Multiples
Create multiples of your works of art through the process of printmaking. Repeat the same image with different colors and styles though lino block carving, collographs and intaglio processes.
Week 9: In Demand
The Best of Summer Camp. A little mix of the favorites throughout summer camp, including painting, drawing, sculpture, and printmaking.

Week 1: Drawing I
Learn to draw and then improve your skills. Refine your technique by practicing still life and portrait drawing. Enjoy drawing success in the very first class. Instructor provides a supportive environment for all skill levels.
Week 2: Painting I
Discover and strengthen your painting skills! Use acrylics to learn about color and texture as well as realism and abstraction. Build a firm foundation for your painting process and watch it grow!
Week 3: Digital Photography
Explore the wide world of digital photography using your own camera. Start with the basics and use your camera in new ways to capture landscape, urban still life and portraiture. Class will cater to all levels. Student will need to bring their own digital camera.
Week 4: Life Drawing
Draw your classmates! Enjoy learning the basic principles of drawing from a live clothed model using various methods and materials. Learn proportion and gesture. All levels of drawing skills are welcome.
Week 5: Clay Works
All levels will enjoy the creative pleasure of making traditional and whimsical objects with clay. You will learn the basics of both hand building and wheel throwing. This course contains projects and instruction to fit a variety of interests and skills levels.
Week 6: Illustration to Animation
Learn to draw using illustration and animation techniques throughout history. From hieroglyphics to Rockwell to Japanimation, art has been used to help the artist and the audience visualize the written word. Use these varied influences to create your own illustrations.
Week 7: Printmaking
Get creative with this fantastic art form. Create a master plate from which multiple images are made by using linoleum, styrofoam, metal, and cardboard, and organic materials. Learn to prepare the printing plate by cutting, etching or drawing an image, inking the surface, and applying it to paper. Create over and over again!
Week 8: Mixed Media Sculpture
Create art pieces using a variety of alternative found-objects such as: plastics, steel, iron, found objects, aluminum, glass, rubber and more. Employ a variety of fabrication processes to yield unusual and creative results.
Week 9: Advancing Portfolio
Solidify your commitment to art and increase your chances in the collegiate and professional world of art making. This course will help you begin and/or improve your portfolio. Instruction will cater to a variety of subject matter including 2-D and 3-D art.
